Traversata is a nomadic platform of navigation, artistic research and creation that merges sailing, art practices and collective learning into a shared exploration of the landscape. At its core lies crossing—understood as an aesthetic, cognitive, and transformative practice—where the journey becomes a sensitive device for building relationships between bodies, places, and thought. The sailboat becomes a mobile laboratory: a space-time in expansion, where movement is both method and instrument. To navigate is to engage in dialogue with the unstable forces of wind and sea, embracing contingency and responding to change in a situated way. The space traversed is never neutral—it provokes, transforms, and questions. Thus, the boat is not merely a vehicle, but a responsive machine of production: it gathers traces, generates observations, and activates archives. Each Traversata brings together a small group of artists and researchers, directly invited by Carboni for their ability to engage in a collective, uncertainty-embracing experience. On board, participants experiment with practices of listening, writing, mapping, and visual and sound sampling—constructing a fluid archive of gestures, images, and sounds that unfolds along the route as a situated, plural, and evolving narrative. To cross means to be crossed: Traversata is an invitation to slow down, to dwell in the time of research without immediate productive ends, and to cultivate unknowing as a space of possibility. It is a gesture of resistance to control and efficiency—an experience of reciprocity between body and landscape, set in the Sulcis archipelago in southwestern Sardinia.
