RETHIKING HUMAN ENERGIES

Project by Alessandro Carboni
Production: Formati Sensibili 2010-2014
The project is part of Overlapping Discrete Boundaries and it has been developed in the frame of GAP – Guilmi Art Project

Rethinking Human Energies is an interdisciplinary project conceived and produced by Alessandro Carboni for the Guilmi Art Project (GAP), an annual artist residency program based in the small village of Guilmi (CH), Abruzzo. The research focuses on the concept of human energy, explored in relation to the ongoing depopulation process that has affected the area—today inhabited by just over one hundred people. Developed over several stages, the project reconstructs a new geography of Guilmi by using the body as a tool for spatial analysis. Through performative actions in urban and rural contexts, direct encounters, workshops, collective practices, installations, and performances created in collaboration with local inhabitants, the work investigates the relationship between body, territory, and memory. Rethinking Human Energies aims to enhance the cultural and historical identity of Guilmi, offering new perspectives on its urban and rural dimensions and on the everyday life of its community. The project has had a lasting impact on the village, fostering intergenerational collaborations among adults, children, and elders. Since his first residency in 2010, Carboni has been repeatedly invited to continue his research and participatory activities within the framework of the Guilmi Art Project.
