My Cartography Theory of Nowhere draws inspiration from the Miller Atlas, one of the most significant documents in the history of cartography, and unfolds as a journey through the Galleria Comunale. The artist conceived the exhibition space as a territory to be explored and the existing works as landscapes to be crossed and interconnected. The installation consists of three glass maps, suspended vertically in the middle of a corridor and horizontally on a table. The transparency of the glass allows visitors to read the marks while simultaneously incorporating the surrounding environment into the map, making the landscape itself part of the work.
The project builds on years of research by Alessandro Carboni into the relationship between the body, urban space, and socio-cultural transformations. Materials collected through travel, residencies, and site-specific explorations are gathered into an archive that takes shape in interdisciplinary maps, visual works, installations, and performances. My Cartography’s Theory of Nowhere thus emerges as the representation of an inner map, one that is constantly shifting: not merely a two-dimensional depiction of space, but a three-dimensional image of place, changing with each point of view. In this sense, the work becomes a device where space and place converge into a single frame—one that can contain infinite, ever-changing landscapes.
