From Quad to Zero is a choreographic research project by Alessandro Carboni inspired by Samuel Beckett’s Quad. Developed during a six-month residency at the School of Drama, University of Calicut (Kerala, India, 2006), the project investigates the relationship between number, body, and space. Drawing from Beckett’s algorithmic structure and the Indian traditions of Bharatanatyam and Vedic mathematics, Carboni explores the “zero point” of movement — a physical and conceptual void. Through the creation of Hyper-Mudras and the Vedic–Choreographic–Cube Tool (VCCT), the work transforms numerical logic into bodily language, tracing a performative journey from geometry to emptiness, from Quad to Zero.
